About Save Rural Andover Borough

Andover Borough is a tiny hamlet of about 260 homes and just over 650 people, located on State Route 206 in southern Sussex County, New Jersey. Our organization, "Save Rural Andover Borough," is a people-oriented, close-knit group of citizens, dedicated to preserving the small-town charm and ideals of our community. We have banded together to prepare for a difficult fight against a development giant, Beazer Homes, and the corporate greed that threatens this beautiful rural hillside and our quality of life.

Save Rural Andover Borough represents area residents who are against a proposed 590-unit housing development in our tiny hamlet. Our purpose is to encourage communications with the residents of the area concerning this project, and its undesirable impact on our rural quality of life.Our group hopes to provide an outlet for residents to express their opposition to this project and to work positive manner with the Borough, County, and State, as well as other and other associations and organizations to help preserve the rural, open character and small-town atmosphere of Andover Borough.

Throughout Sussex County, developments similar to the one proposed here threaten to destroy the rural character of many of our established hamlets and neighborhoods, adversely impact the environment, and continue the upward spiral of property taxes required to support our schools.

We welcome the support and assistance of other like-minded individuals and organizations from surrounding communities, both in and outside Sussex County, who have similar concerns. We believe that the pressure of development and the absurdity of the "ratables chase" runs rampant throughout our region, and the best way to solve this problem is by taking a regional approach to the issue, educating elected and appointed officials to the myths of chasing ratables, and advancing the goals of acquisition of open space and farmland preservation. In this manner, we believe we can preserve the charm of our community and the rural quality of life that we all value.
