Save Andover group to hold 2nd yard sale

Save Rural Andover Borough, a grassroots organization formed to oppose a developer's plan for nearly 600 homes in Andover, will hold another yard sale to raise money for its fight. The organization held a sale on Sunday in the parking lot near the Andover Borough Firehouse. Planners had intended to have it on Saturday as well but had to cancel due to the weather.
Fred DiRenzo, co-president of the organization, said the yard sales are an effort to raise money for attorneys and consultants to work for Save Rural Andover Borough, not to contribute to the borough's legal battle.
"We're just looking to create a stage where we can be heard," DiRenzo said. "We know it's hard to compete with a Fortune 500 company. We just want a chance to be heard."
Beazer Homes, an Atlanta-based company, is among the nation's largest residential developers.
DiRenzo did not say how much Sunday's sale raised but called it the best way for the organization to raise funds now.
"So many people came out," he said. "There were people from so many surrounding towns with support and donations."
Beazer's Newton-based attorney, Kevin Kelly, said he did not want to comment on the group's efforts.
The borough's planning board stopped hearing the application after the Borough Council revoked the zoning and general development plan two months ago, Kelly said.
Saturday and Sunday's yard sale will be held on in the parking lot near the firehouse on Route 206 in Andover Borough from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., DiRenzo said.
