Dancin’ the development away
02/21/07 - Township Journal

Andover - Save Rural Andover Borough Inc. will hold a fund-raising dance dubbed “Dancin’ the Development Away,” on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Andover Borough fire house.

Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Snacks are included and food is available. Music is by Play Your Music DJ.

Save Rural Andover was formed to fight a proposed development. The group feels that the tiny borough, with 260 homes and just over 650 people cannot keep its small-town charm and ideals if the population expands so rapidly.

The Borough’s visibility along Route 206 has led the organization to recruit people to help raise funds for the fight. According to their publicity, Save Rural Andover Borough Inc. “is a people-oriented, close-knit group of citizens, dedicated to preserving the small-town charm and ideals of our community. With a population of just over 650 people, it is difficult to fight a corporate giant like Beazer Homes without the help of friends and neighbors who share our concern for the rural quality of life here in Sussex County.

”Our grassroots organization has hired an attorney to represent our interests, as well as environmental consultants to study the area surrounding the proposed development and assess potential environmental impact on our town. With little or no money, aside from that raised at bake sales and yard sales last summer, we have been effective in our fight, which has been ongoing for over two-and-a-half years now.”
